Pedestrian struck in Silver Spring

A pedestrian was struck and injured Saturday morning at Piney Branch Road and Arliss Street in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police.

The victim was hit by a dark-colored truck around 8:15 a.m., authorities said. The driver did not stay at the scene, and authorities said they are looking for the vehicle.

Pr. William special education teacher, Shirley Whitfield, charged with assaulting children

A teacher’s assistant at a Prince William County middle school was charged with abusing two students, police said Monday.

Shirley Whitfield, 69, a teacher’s assistant at Beville Middle School in Dale City, allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy Thursday, Prince William police said, causing minor injuries. She has been charged with two counts of assault and battery.

A man was shot in the leg during a robbery in Arlington Wednesday night, police said.

The man was walking home near South Arlington Ridge Road and South Lang Street at about 8:30 p.m. when a suspect approached him and demanded money at gunpoint, police said.

Man killed by school bus in Gaithersburg

A man was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a Montgomery County school bus in Gaithersburg, police said.

The victim was crossing Clopper Road just before 6:30 a.m. when he was struck by the unoccupied school bus, police said. The bus remained on the scene after the accident.

Two shot in home invasion in Aspen Hill

A man and a juvenile girl were shot in a home invasion in Aspen Hill early Thursday, authorities said.

Police said they responded to a shooting just before 1 a.m. in the 13000 block of Freeland Road and found a man with a gunshot wound to his chest and a juvenile female with a gunshot wound to the ankle.

Woman fatally stabbed in Camp Springs area

A woman was fatally stabbed at an apartment building in the Camp Springs area Monday morning, and police have arrested a man who is believed to have attacked her, authorities said.

Investigators said the attack appeared to be “domestic-related,” and they are investigating whether the man and woman might have been boyfriend and girlfriend, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a Prince George’s County police spokesman. He said investigators were also trying to determine whether there was a history of domestic abuse.

Town of Quantico chooses John P. Clair as police chief for scandal-plagued department

The town of Quantico is looking to revive its scandal-plagued police department and has started by hiring a new police chief, town Mayor Kevin Brown said Friday.

In January, Acting Police Chief Howard Castle and two full-time officers resigned from the police department of this small town — located on the Marine Corps Base with a population just under 500 — after an internal audit found that drugs, cash and handguns were missing from the department.

Pr. William 12-year-old sexually assaulted; suspect in custody

A suspect in the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in Woodbridge is in custody, according to Prince William County police.

Police said the girl encountered Rudsebel Alvarado-Ingles, 33, in a house in the 15000 block of Maine Court. The man allegedly “held her hands behind her back and forced her to a bedroom area where he sexually assaulted her,” according to a news release.

Woman stabbed on Capitol Hill

A woman suffered stab wounds Wednesday night during an attack in the Southeast neighborhood of Capitol Hill, D.C. police said.

The stabbing happened near Kentucky Avenue and C Street about 7:45 p.m., said Officer Paul Metcalf, a spokesman. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening.

Four injured in Suitland Parkway Crash

A two-vehicle accident injured four people Wednesday night and forced authorities to shut down Suitland Parkway, D.C. police said.

Two people were found pinned inside a vehicle and two others were in life-threatening condition following the crash on the parkway near Naylor Road about 8 p.m., said Officer Paul Metcalf, a spokesman. Authorities shut down the highway in both directions.

D.C. man convicted of ‘attempted execution’ of three men during drug robbery

A D.C. man was found guilty Tuesday of an incident that prosecutors described as an “attempted execution” of three men during a drug robbery.

Herbert Arrington, 26, of the District, was found guilty of multiple charges, including assault with intent to kill, aggravated assault while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. He is scheduled for sentencing in D.C. Superior Court on June 7.

A Maryland man is accused of creating a fake youth baseball team, recruiting players, holding practices and collecting thousands of dollars, authorities in St. Mary’s County said.

Michael S. Erdolino, 38, of no fixed address, has been arrested and charged with theft after creating the fake Southern Maryland Athletics Youth Baseball team last September, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
